Sarah Rugheimer, a native of Montana, currently holds the Allan I. Carswell Chair for the Public Understanding of Astronomy at York University in Toronto. Her research primarily focuses on modeling the atmosphere and climate of exoplanets, with a specific interest in identifying atmospheric biosignatures on Earth-like planets and simulating early Earth environments. Apart from her academic pursuits, Sarah actively engages with the public on topics related to astrophysics and astrobiology. Recently, she accomplished a personal goal by reaching the summit of Denali.
Sarah’s journey includes her experience transitioning from a community college to Harvard University, grappling with imposter syndrome, addressing gender and racial biases in STEM education, and highlighting the importance of mentorship in her life. Sarah proudly identifies as a Sallyist, a term coined to honor Sally Conrad, an inspiring Montana woman who is featured on our podcast.
